GETTING STARTED WITH CANNABIS THERAPY Therapy initiation and process

For many patients, treatment with medicinal cannabis is an alternative therapy for treating chronic illnesses such as pain. It can help to reduce the symptoms of physical and mental illnesses. Cannabis medicines are not standardised preparations and it requires the experience of a specialised doctor to administer the correct medication. In this respect, many patients benefit from using multiple products, for example, if they take their medication during the day or in the evening.

COSTS OF CANNABIS THERAPY Therapy costs with us

Once the necessary documents have been submitted and checked, cannabis therapy begins with an initial consultation with one of our cooperating doctors on site or digitally. The doctor examines the patient physically and psychologically and can thus get a better overview of the patient’s state of health and check whether cannabis therapy could be an option. The doctor then decides whether to start treatment. He then draws up an individualised medication plan for the patient if necessary and, based on this, a prescription for medicinal cannabis.

As this is a BTM prescription and the cannabis therapy must be accompanied by a doctor at all times, additional costs are incurred during the ongoing therapy for video consultations or follow-up appointments with the doctor, or for the issuing of follow-up prescriptions. Follow-up prescriptions are issued during the therapy consultation. With well-adjusted medication, follow-up prescriptions can now also be requested without a consultation.

Would you like to find out more about the cost of cannabis therapy with us? On our page of the Therapy costs we have listed the costs in detail. We have also provided you with several cost examples for various sample patients.

Ingredients of medicinal cannabis

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are the most important active substances in cannabis and are mainly found in the female hemp plant. To date, over 140 different cannabinoids have been identified. The cannabinoids that have been studied the most for their medicinal benefits are THC and CBD. Cannabis varieties differ in their THC and CBD content and ratio. The therapeutic benefits vary depending on the biology of the patient and the cannabis strain. In the research of cannabinoids, the Endocannabinoid system discovered

THC

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most abundant cannabinoid in most cannabis strains and is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis. Studies suggest that THC may have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, appetite-enhancing and anticonvulsant properties. THC is often used to relieve pain and nausea, reduce spasticity and increase appetite. THC is also responsible for the euphoric or psychoactive effects of cannabis.

Terpenes

Terpenes are a group of highly heterogeneous chemical compounds found in numerous plants. Scientists have discovered around 150 different terpenes. Terpenes are found in the same glands of the hemp plant that produce cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. They give the different cannabis varieties their typical odour and taste. Terpenes can have their own effect on the body as well as interacting with cannabinoids and thus providing the properties of the different cannabis varieties. This mechanism is explained by the Entourage effect.

CBD

Cannabinol (CBD) is one of over 100 different cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Unlike THC, CBD has no intoxicating effect. Both cannabinoids act via the so-called endocannabinoid system in the body. CBD can have an anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving effect, improve the sensation of pain and have a calming and anxiety-relieving effect.
